2025 TASTE OF MINNESOTA HEADLINERS RECAP

CHEAP TRICK - SATURDAY

CHEAP TRICK has been making music for over fifty years. Originally formed in Rockford, Illinois. Lead vocalist Robin Zander, songwriter / lead guitarist Rick Nielsen, and bassist Tom Petersson continue to tour and their latest stop was the 2025 Taste Of Minnesota.

Hearing the songs that helped get the band inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame in 2016, the Minneapolis fans embraced Cheap Trick's performance. In their set they performed top hits like "Surrender", "Dream Police", and "The Flame." It was great to also hear the classics "If You Want My Love" & "I Want You To Want Me." The energy was very real and acknowledged by many.

JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS - SATURDAY

When talking about the history of Rock n Roll, it's hard to leave out the name Joan Jett. Referred to as the "Godmother of Punk" and the "Queen of Rock n Roll", Joan Jett hit the music scene at the age of sixteen as a founding member of "The Runaways in 1975. She left as a solo artist after four albums and formed an independent label. In the early eighties, the title track from the album "I Love Rock n Roll" would end up becoming an anthem for her career.

After performing recently in Ireland, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts made their stop at this year's Taste Of Minnesota. It was highly anticipated performance, Joan Jett seems to draw a crowd and to have a performance that was free and open to the public was for sure a good call for a large audience. Her vocals still sound iconic at age 66, and she can still play that guitar with the best of them. Fifty years of Rock n Roll and she still has a strong stage-presence. Sprinkled through the bands performance were a few unique covers that were close to Joan Jett's heart. "Androgynous" by The Replacements and "Everyday People" by Sly and The Family Stone. A strong performance and a great turnout for a legendary rock band.

LUDACRIS - SUNDAY

It's been twenty-five years since the Ludacris debut album was released. Many more albums later along with several acting roles, Ludacris hits the main stage at the 2025 Taste Of Minnesota. It didn't take long for the iconic Hip-Hop artist to get the "At Capacity" crowd involved in all the songs that hit the billboard charts over the years. "Stand Up" & "Get Back" seemed to be the fan favorites, but Ludacris likes to bring that energy from start to finish with his performances. It was a great sight to see so many hold the "ones" in the air in unison. The Atlanta Hip-Hop star has a way of giving the people what they want. A high-energetic good time. Great call "Taste Of Minnesota" on booking an impactful music artist like Ludacris. Looking forward to seeing on what the 2026 Taste Of Minnesota has instore.

SHOUT OUT ENTERTAINMENT REVIEWS CHRIS YOUNG AT TARGET FIELD

    REVIEW BY JEFF CROYLE 9/13/2024

It was a beautiful night for a post-game concert and if you are a country music fan it was even better. Multi-platinum national recording artist

Chris Young took the stage to entertain thousands of fans.

His music was a combination of country music with some rock-n-roll overtones that gave a music fan a dose of feel-good music. The 75-minute set included many of his top hits with some emotional moments like honoring his friend Adam who had passed.

It's been eighteen years since winning the reality show Nashville star and he has charted 20+ songs on the US Country Charts and 5 which have reached #1 over the years. It was great to hear some of his classics like "Gettin' You Home" & "Hangin' On" & also his newer hits like "Young Love & Saturday Nights."

He mentioned most of his band had been with him for the long-haul, which included his bandmate and college buddy Seth Costner. Seth sang his rendition of Prince's "Kiss" during the set. It was a fun experience tying Country music to fans of the Minnesota music icon.

I personally like the way Chris Young used the video boards with Kane Brown to sing their big hit "Famous Friends." It was unique and worked really well with the Target Field atmosphere and it seem the fans really enjoyed it as well. It was another successful post-game concert for the Minnesota Twins staff& fans. It was the second consecutive year (4th show overall) and I hope they keep the new tradition going.

SHOUT OUT MN REVIEWS DEF LEPPARD/JOURNEY/ STEVE MILLER BAND

      DEF LEPPARD

The Def Leppard Summer stadium tour made a stop in Minneapolis at Target Field on Monday night. The band has been celebrating the 40th Anniversary of their Pyromania album, which spun of hits "Rock Of Ages" & "Photograph." The band performed these hits in their 18-song setlist with over 35,000 in attendance. Lead singer Joe Elliot, Bassist Rick Savage, & Drummer Rick Allen have all remained together since the release of "On Through The Night" (the debut of their first full-length album in 1980). Vivian Campbell (guitar, backing vocals) joined the band in 1992.  This was the first show in Minneapolis since 2022 (US Bank Stadium) and was the second appearance performing at Target field since 2018 (both w/ Journey). Joe Elliot and backing vocals sounded fantastic. The sound quality was excellent with little to no unnecessary feedback. It was a clean and enjoyable sound throughout the stadium. Def Leppard still puts on a memorable and great sounding show. The band is approaching 50 years and truly defines the meaning of "Rock Of Ages."

      JOURNEY

Journey makes their Target Field appearance (w/ Def Leppard) for the second time in six years and they put on a quality show for all. From Neil Schon's rendition of Prince's "Purple Rain" to Arnel Pineda's vocals on "Separate Ways." The band's 19-song setlist which started with "Only The Young" and ended with "Any Way You Want It." There were times during the set where I felt Arnel tried to do too much vocally, but overall was a good performance from Journey, Despite the ongoing legal battles within the band, it did not translate to or effect their performance as a whole. The band thrived on the big stage and looking forward to their next visit to Minnesota.

      STEVE MILLER BAND

The Steve Miller Band opened up the night with a unique all-white back. It worked in favor for photographers and the music in favor of the concertgoers. Steve Miller (80 years old) has been established since 1966 and has been bringing his classic/psychedelic rock sound for decades. With several members over the years, some went on to other endeavors like Boz Scaggs and Ross Valory (who joined Journey). In their 12-song set, the band play many of their classic hits. Included were two special dedications. Steve dedicated "Abracadabra " to Eminem who asked for permission to use the track in his own music creation that created a social media frenzy in a matter of a couple days. Steve also dedicated the final song of the night "Jet Airliner" to his Godfather Les Paul. There was also a shout out to the Petersons of St. Paul. The Steve Miller Band was my first ever concert 36 years ago and the nostalgia is still there. For 80 years old, Steve Miller still sounds fantastic.

SHOUT OUT MN ENTERTAINMENT FLO-RIDA CONCERT RECAP ON 6/17/24

FLO-RIDA TOOK A CONCERT AND MADE IT A MINNESOTA PARTY!

It was the date that was circled on many of Twins fan's calendars. It was Flo-Rida night!

In front of the largest crowd of the season of 35,000 plus. With the show lasting approximately 58 minutes, Flo-Rida did not waste time reeling off his hits like "Low", "My House", and "Right Round".

He took his performance to the stands on both the first & third base sides of the field. He had even popped a bottle of champagne or two. All ages were joining in singing the songs that many sports venues and media have made popular. Flo-Rida also wore his custom-made Minnesota Twins City Connect Jersey and baseball cap during his performance. It was also the night the Twins debuted their City Connect uniforms with a 10th inning walk-off win.

It was the only Twins postgame concert on the schedule this season. Two more Target Field concerts scheduled this Summer will be when the Twins are on the road which includes Green Day with Smashing Pumpkins /Rancid and Def Leppard w/ Journey/Steve Miller Band. Check out the Flo-Rida Photo Gallery from last night's show below.

SHOUT OUT MN CONCERT REVIEW - CARLY PEARCE @ TARGET FIELD

SHOUT OUT MN CONCERT REVIEW - CARLY PEARCE @ TARGET FIELD 8-24-2023

Carly Pearce took the stage for the Minnesota Twims post-game concert Thursday night at Target Field.

The Grammy-award winning singer really took to the fans during her performance.  Many interactions and smiles let tMinnesota know that she was (more than) happy to be around all who stayed to see her perform.

Carly touched on how 90's country music really helped shape her into the artist she has become today. Included in her set were covers of Shania twain and The Chicks.

She also played some new material along with her big hits. The 75 minute set was the second and final Twins post-game concert of the season.

IMAGINE DRAGONS DID NOT DISAPPOINT.  THE ENERGY, THE LASERS, AND MANY ENCOURAGING POSITIVE STATEMENTS MADE THEIR SHOW A COMPLETE SUCCESS. 21 SONGS IN ALL ON THEIR SETLIST. MANY HITS WERE SANG BY MANY AND LOVED BY ALL. MENTAL HEALTH AND BEING COMFORTABLE WITH WHO YOU ARE SEEMED TO BE THE MAIN MESSAGE BY LEAD VOCALIST DAN REYNOLDS.  SONGS LIKE "DEMONS" AND "WHATEVER IT TAKES" TOOK ON NEW MEANING DURING THEIR LIVE PERFORMANCE AT TARGET FIELD. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME SHOUT OUT MINNESOTA HAS COVERED THE IMAGINE DRAGONS AND BOTH TIMES THEY HAVE PUT ON A GREAT SHOW.

GOO GOO DOLLS/BLUE OCTOBER FEATURED SHOW REVIEW

GOO GOO DOLLS / BLUE OCTOBER AT THE LEDGE AMPHITHEATER

A Monday night in mid-September might not be the ideal time for a concert, but it was on this night.

The venue was the Ledge Amphitheater in St. Cloud. In the second year of its existence, it has shown its patrons that this the ideal place to see an outdoor show.

Last night's headliner the Goo Goo Dolls (originating from Buffalo NY) took the stage and performed a 22-song set for their fans. The visual and vocal performance was spectacular. Many of the Goo Goo Dolls classic hits were enjoyed by many, but could have done without the politics from John Rzeznik. The band had rescheduled the show twice, and for many worth the wait (according to the audience reaction).

The opener was a band from Houston TX,  by the name of "Blue October." They had a very significant following of fans as well. Some of their songs included "Hate Me" & "Into The Ocean." Lead vocalist Justin Furstenfeld with his aggressive and powerful stage presence captured the attention of first-time listeners (such as myself). The leather jacket and sunglasses added to his persona. I was pleasantly surprised.  Not often does an opening act generate this much praise (in my opinion). I would recommend this band to concert-goers.
